What is the qualification?

The accredited Outdoor First Aid course is suitable for, and recognised by the majority of National Governing Bodies, such as Mountain Leaders Training UK, Sports Leaders UK, BCU, etc., for their awards i.e. Walking Group Leader Award; Mountain Leader Award; Level 3 Certificate in Basic Expedition Leadership.  It involves 16 hours of tuition and includes an element of assessment.

The training is delivered by a recognised HSE provider and fully experienced and professional trainers, who have an active interest and commitment to the outdoor environment and fully understand the issues, dilemmas, and judgments required when dealing with incidents in potentially hostile remote environments, making the training highly relevant to your needs.  Emphasis is placed on incident management and monitoring casualties.  Minimal equipment is assumed (similar to what is already on your back) and plenty of practical scenarios are provided, with feedback and analysis given upon completion.

Who is the qualification intended for?

The course is intended for those leading and working with groups in an outdoor environment.

OFA1The aim of the course is to enable students with no special equipment, to effectively manage an emergency where help is not imminently available.  This is a practical course, concentrating on what you do in different situations rather than what you know.  To this end students learn a set of general principles, which they can adapt to different situations.

Who can enrol?

Any person who is 16 years of age or over.

In order to receive the certificate, delegates must attend the whole course and meet the required standard. On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded an Outdoor First Aid certificate, which is valid for 3 years.
